News Item Text is a text which inform readers about events of the day. The events that are conveyed to the reader are events that are considered important and should be made into news.

PURPOSE OF NEWS ITEM

The communicative purpose of this type of text is o inform readers, listeners, or iewers about events or tragedies that are currently happening.

GENERIC STRUCTURE OF NEWS ITEM

1. Main Events / Newsworthy event(s): it recounts the event in summary form.

2. Elaboration / Background event(s): they elaborate what happened, to whom, in what circumstance

3. Resource of Information (Source) : it contains comments by participants in, witnesses to and authorities expert on the event.

LANGUAGE FEATURES OF NEWS ITEM

- Focusing on circumstances 

- Using material process

- Using action verbs 

- Using saying vers 

- Using adverb of time, adverb of place, adverb of manner

- Using Present perfect tense, Past Tense, and Future Tense.
